I finally found higher quality pics of the elements :D

Fire

When enemies are launched by a fire attack, they will create a small explosion when they land, hurting other nearby enemies. Fire+ makes this explosion larger. This doesn't have much use and Fire+ barely helps.

Enemies weak to Fire:

  • Agitha

  • Tingle

Weapons that are Fire-typed:

  • Link | Fire Rod

  • Impa | Naginata

  • Lana | Summoning Gate

  • Darunia | Hammer

  • Volga | Dragon Spear

  • Tingle | Balloon

  • Linkle | Crossbows

  • Toon Link | Sand Wand

  • Bombs

Weapons that gain the Fire type with their Level 4+ weapon:

  • Link | Gauntlets

  • Ganondorf | Trident

  • Agitha | Parasol

  • Ghirahim | Demon Blade

  • Young Link | Mask

Other weapons that inflict the Fire effect:

  • Link | Great Fairy

  • Sheik | Harp

Lightning

Normally when enemies are hit while in the air, your attacks do 33% less damage than normal. Lightning attacks will deal normal damage regardless if the enemy is in the air or not.  Lightning+ launches enemies higher into the air. Lighining is a very useful element on its own, but it fells like more of a necessity than an aid on weapons with the element, as they usually deal less damage than other weapons. Lightning+ is supposed to make it easier to juggle enemies, but it's more of a hindrance as it makes it easier for enemies to dodge out of your combos. Avoid using Lightning+ at all times.

Enemies weak to Lightning:

  • Lana

  • Ruto

Weapons that are Lightning-typed:

  • Link | Gauntlets

  • Link | Spinner

  • Sheik | Harp

  • Lana | Book of Sorcery

  • Zelda | Baton

  • Ganondorf | Trident

  • Linkle | Boots

  • Boomerang

Weapons that gain the Lightning type with their Level 4+ weapon:

  • Link | Magic Rod

  • Impa | Naginata

  • Midna | Shackle

  • Cia | Scepter

  • Skull Kid | Ocarina

  • King Daphnes | Sail

Other weapons that inflict the Lightning effect:

  • Link | Great Fairy

  • Agitha | Parasol

Water

When enemies are hit by a water attack, a bubble may appear around their head. The bubble will deal damage and stun the enemy every few seconds. Water+ makes this bubble last longer. Water is a helpful element, but the stun it causes can sadly break combos. But this isn't much of a problem for some weapons (like the Great Fairy) that don't focus on comboing and instead just deal large amounts of damage. Water+ isn't worth it on any weapon.

Enemies weak to Water:

  • Darunia

  • Volga

Weapons that are Water-typed:

  • Link | Great Fairy

  • Impa | Great Blade

  • Lana | Spear

  • Ruto | Zora Scale

  • Tetra | Cutlass

  • King Daphnes | Sail

  • Marin | Bell

Weapons that gain the Water type with their Level 4+ weapon:

  • Lana | Summoning Gate

  • Zelda | Baton

  • Zant | Scimitars

  • Fi | Goddess Blade

  • Wizzro | Ring

  • Tingle | Balloon

Other weapons that inflict the Water effect:

  • Sheik | Harp

Light

When you are attacking multiple enemies with light attacks (light as in the element, not the opposite of a strong attack), the character's hand will begin to glow (or in Fi's case, her feet). While the glow is active, enemies hit by any attack will occasionally have a golden X across their body. This will make those specific enemies take more damage from attacks. Light+ lengthens the duration that the X stays there. Light is a very useful element on its own because of how many characters are weak to it. Besides from that however, the bonus effects don't help much. You'll only be applying the light effect when battling large crowds, and that usually means large crowds of enemies that die quickly anyways. Light+ is a bit more useful than the above 3 elements' skills, but it still isn't that great.

Enemies weak to Light:

  • Ganondorf

  • Midna

  • Zant

  • Ghirahim

  • Cia

  • Wizzro

  • Twili Midna

Weapons that are Light-typed:

  • Link | Hylian Sword

  • Link | Master Sword

  • Link | Horse

  • Zelda | Rapier

  • Agitha | Parasol

  • Fi | Goddess Sword

  • Toon Link | Light Sword

  • Medli | Rito Harp

  • Toon Zelda | Phantom Arms

  • Bow & Arrow

Weapons that gain the Light type with their Level 4+ weapon:

  • Sheik | Harp

  • Lana | Spear

  • Ruto | Zora Scale

  • Twili Midna | Mirror

  • Tetra | Cutlass

Other weapons that inflict the Light effect:

  • Sheik | Harp

  • Twili Midna | Mirror

Darkness

When you are attacking a single enemy with dark attacks, the enemy may receive a purple X across their body. This will cause that enemy to take more damage from attacks. Darkness+ allows this effect to be passed on to multiple enemies at once. THIS is the best element in the game hands down. Just like light, there are a lot of characters weak to darkness, but the secondary effect is especially helpful. Since the only time you will spend a bit of time on a single enemy is in 1v1 against stronger characters, the extra damage really helps. The extra damage also carries over to finishing blows, which makes them do EXTREMELY high damage. Darkness+ is also the only elemental+ skill that is particularly useful (in case you are battling multiple stronger characters like hordes of Lizalfos or Darknuts), so you can put it on if you have room.

Enemies weak to Darkness:

  • Link

  • Impa

  • Sheik

  • Zelda

  • Fi

  • Young Link

Weapons that are Darkness-typed:

  • Zelda | Dominion Rod

  • Ganondorf |Great Blades

  • Midna | Shackle

  • Zant | Scimitars

  • Ghirahim | Demon Blade

  • Cia | Scepter

  • Wizzro | Ring

  • Twili Midna | Mirror

  • Young Link | Mask

  • Skull Kid | Ocarina

  • Hookshot

Weapons that gain the Darkness type with their Level 4+ weapon:

  • Darunia | Hammer

  • Volga | Dragon Spear

Other weapons that inflict the Darkness effect:

  • Sheik | Harp

Other notes:

-When accounting for elemental weaknesses when using a weapon with more than 1 element (Link's Great Fairy, Sheik's Harp, Agitha's Parasol, and Twili Midna's Mirror), damage will match the element of the weapon no matter what attack you use. Ex. If you use Twili Midna's C4 (where she shoots out 3 huge balls of light) on Ganondorf, a character weak to Light, he will not take extra damage because the weapon is still Darkness-type. Likewise, if you use the same attack against Link, he will take extra damage because he is weak to Darkness.

-Recommended elements for stages let weapons of that element deal 50%(ish) more damage than average.

-Yes, those sub weapons that you most likely only use against giant bosses have elements of their own, but they will only apply the elemental effect when powered up. (Unsure on weakness damage)
